UP ako, ikaw?

There are only TWO universities in the Philippines, UP and others.
That was the very first thing i learned from the upperclassmen when it comes to ‘exercising’ your bragging rights. It was funny then and in general it was haughty. But as years passed and i have fully adapted to the UP culture, i now see this line as a fact and no longer a joke. In the first place, if every high school student had only taken the UPCAT and PASSED, then he will surely choose to belong in this premier university. UP is UP as they say but I would like to butt in that UP is more than a university, it is more than a huge and diverse academic community. It is a different world, a microcosm of the Filipino society. It is more of a tangible illustration of the non-existent ideals. UP is so complex that you will surely believe that it can exist on its own.
Why am i saying all these? Well maybe as a daughter of the university it is a reflex for me to feel for the university. “Makabayan ang iskolar ng bayan “,the students chant during rallies but i’d rather join the pep squad in shouting “matatapang, matatalino, walang takot kahit kanino”. This is the reason why a simple step on my head can stimulate an aggressive reasoning. Vainglorious warfreak you might call me but i really do not want others insulting my university especially those who do not know how to survive when thrown inside our territory.
I was never judgmental and i have never insulted other universities before. I can say i was really that humble that i do not want others to know where i take my classes. I am mature enough to handle those kinds of situations but this i wouldn’t miss. It’s alright for me to sound crap while writing this post because in the first place, i am not in the right sense of being while doing this. All i can feel right now is annoyance. I can always brag about my university i always tell myself but i choose not to. Why? because i know nothing can compare to UP so why bother to brag about it.
bottomline is, we may not join every single competition that exists in this whole wide world; we may not win all the sports competitions; we may not be sounding the trumpets when it comes to journalism but who cares? we are not lagging behind in the first place. UPs hundred years of academic excellence is enough to keep their mouths shut. Maybe i am too agitated, pardon me, but UP is my life,my book and i don’t want others spitting on it.
‘LOVE’ in Baguio
May 12, 2009Nothing beats a spontaneous trip to baguio city during the hot days of summer. And Having a long night of cool music, heavy laugh trip and delectable appetizers coupled with ice cold mudslide and tequila sunrise doesn’t sound bad either.
Honestly, i do not know why this post was entitled that way. All i know is that i met someone (well technically. we didn’t speak that ‘much’) which made me realize i LOVE him.

erase, erase, erase. things changed to my surprise.
Baguio is never dull and I am never ignorant. Who would think that my second trip to the summer capital would be strange… crazy… wild and unbelievable.
I am running out of words. I do not know how to describe this feeling. emotions are all mixed up and i hate it. i hate it. i hate it.
To confess, the original post should be thrilling .. i failed to finish it because you can never tell two different opposing stories which happened at the same place.
Bottom line is, i love Baguio, it makes me dumb.
When rantings turn a dozen- (a repost)
April 24, 2009It was a rainy night when Mr. H, one of my closest friends (as far as i know) beeped me and asked about personal stuff (when i say personal, it means really personal). He asked me questions a girl would never answer out of friendliness. Questions which need one’s complete sanity and honesty. Honestly, it was a little bit awkward but then my instincts told me to go by the board because it was my tipping point. And so i took his ‘little’ test and at the end, i managed to get him whining and definitely not winning.
Despite the awkwardness and comments brazenly thrown at me, i learned more about the truths of life. And here are some of my realizations:
1. Your personality and character will never be stable. They will always depend on who reads your book and if your book is open in the first place.
2. Never try to sound all-knowing. The more you try, the more you’ll sound senseless.
3. Whenever you do your best to sound nice, your words will always be misinterpreted. Better not talk at all when things get all wrong.
4. Friends are real but best friends aren’t. They only get to be true when one stops asking and starts trusting.
5. Blood will always be thicker than water. That’s why you always have to set your priorities. Who gets the most of your attention? Who hurts who?
6. Man’s super ego works all the time but at some point, in a split of a second, it fails and falters. His happiest moment is his weakest.
7. Staying up late at night is never disadvantageous. The weirdest, craziest and funniest conversations are initiated past 12 midnight. Trust me, it’s true.
8. Do-it-your-way tests are not reliable. Instead of discovering the truth using the answers, lies come out because of the questions. Next time you make one, make sure you check first how debauched your past has been. You have no right to ask questions you could not answer yourself.
9. I can never be judged by anyone here on earth. I am what they think i am not, and i am not what they think i am.
10. Mr. H has never been a best friend. He just exploited the word so as to lure me into thinking that he is the best man around me. Well hell yeah, i thought he was. But darn! his test spoke for itself. So what if i am not the girl he never remembered of knowing? He’s not even the man i never dreamed of having.
11. Blogging makes you realize how vulnerable you are to different emotions that’s why it’s exciting.
12. I am out of words at this very moment…..
One Life To Live
NUMBERS matter. OUR DAYS are counted. MONEY can’t be ignored.
We are often deceived by sheer hopes of comfort and wealth. We must admit it; our lives are incarcerated with the idea of controlling the numbers so as to acquire POWER. Our eyes are fixated into what is uncertain or if not, we are blinded, eyes totally taken out of our orbits. We are incapacitated; our senses removed in order to effectively impose this dogma that would seem impossible to escape from. Living in this kind of prison is excruciating and it takes great courage for one to turn his back on the promises of good life, to detoxify himself and move forward empty-handed. Good thing is, at some point we decide to breach the portals. We decide to breakout. But then despite our efforts, we fail. As we come closer to the gates, or even to the verge of exoneration, we fall on our knees and right in front of our eyes, we see ourselves repeating the same mistakes. This happens, always. We always forget to unshackle ourselves and so the most important thing is always left unremoved-the handcuffs. As a result, we are left dumbfounded and the story repeats and never ends.
MOST of us think that the best way to live life is to make things out of it. It’s apparent. People do things to satisfy their needs, to get their wants, and to fulfil their cravings even in the expense of others. We spend our time dreaming about the good in life, of immortality, expending our efforts in trying to acquire every single thing that can be ours. As far as success is concerned, we always see to it that every opportunity which will draw us closer to what is ‘good’ is grabbed, regardless of which is morally right and which is not. The catch is no matter how many times we mull over these things; no matter how many times we realize that what we are doing is completely irrational and illogical, we still succumb. We persuade ourselves that we are never wrong, that morality is never an issue and that we are not to be blamed. We believe that these mentalities can never be isolated from the idea of us, being human. We try to box ourselves, thinking that there’s no other choice, letting the sinister creep into our veins until we end up in sepsis.
LITTLE do we comprehend that there’s always an alternative. We barely recognize that it is the truth that we suppressing. It is the truth that we are trying to run from. Only fools would think that living this life is a one-way path. In this journey, crossroads will never be missing and so are choices. The heavens would agree if I say FREE WILL is given not only for us to enjoy but for us to make use of it wisely. That’s why Philosophizing is vital for living. It tells us what is ought to be done and what is ought to be avoided; which choice is RIGHT and which is not.
We may ask ourselves, what is the best way to live this life if it’s not about NUMBERS? Scriptures tell us one thing- the best way to live is to live in LIGHT which is never easy. It is a long and challenging race and it is the responsibility of every runner to discover the rules. One’s goal is not to reach the end with the least span of time but rather to run the race the best way we could; to move forth and travail the track the righteous way; to be able to reach the end, see THE COACH face-to-face, and hear Him say “Well done, MY CHILD”.
COUNTING DAYS and ADDING YEARS TO YOUR LIFE is not that bad but there’s a better way to live. Why not RUN THE RACE and ADD LIFE TO YOUR YEARS? It’s never too late. The Christian race starts every day and there’s no better time to start it than NOW. START RUNNING and never stop. LIVE LIFE.
